SALONE DEL MOBILE ::: DESIGN WEEK MILAN 2019 STUDIO OINK x KUMI MOOD with "Dry paint and all the bended branches"

Dry paint and all the bended branches is a poetic symbiosis of the objects of KUMI MOOD and STUDIO OINK.

„Play! I called. I just want to play!

I smell the wood. Such a scent! And how strong you are! What can we experience? I wake up and everything is very colorful and smooth. I walk. A small branch brushes my shoulder, a bird comes by. I take a deep breath. I keep walking. A butterfly tickles my ear. I lean on your trunk. And again I take a deep breath.

Suddenly a crack, where is everything? I turn the light on.“

The objects and furniture of KUMI MOOD and STUDIO OINK refer to a world of childlike poetry and imagination. Silently narrated stories and experiences combine both works and present themselves in simple forms and aesthetic colors.

Dreamy pictures become real and create a world of their own.

With their brand Kumi Mood, Cäcilia Holtgreve and Benno Sattler merge art, design and craft into atmospheric, individual and cheerful design objects. Their hand-drawn designs are characterized by inspiring colors and finely tuned shapes. With great attention to details they create character-strong objects that feel comfortable as a toy in the children's room or as a furnishing object in the living space.

Lea Korzeczek and Matthias Hiller develop as STUDIO OINK tailor-made high-quality interior concepts for private and public spaces. The studio has also specialized in the field of object and product design and realizes independent limited small series of furniture and objects. The philosophy of STUDIO OINK is the balance between poetry and function, between simplicity and playfulness.

Today’s world is shaped by an anonymous communication through several social media channels and interaction through the world wide web. It is a big chance to be visible to people around the world. But its not reality and something is missing.

What does it mean for a designer?

First of all, it means that everything is possible. Realities can be formed, cropped and filtered. Pictures and words can be well chosen and selected. But what is missing, is an honest feeling, a personal impression, experiences through all our senses and last but not least an interaction with the designer itself.

Every single piece we create is strongly connected to us and our interpretation of our surrounding and situations we felt touched by.

Often it is difficult for a beholder to feel exactly the same like we do while observing a piece we create, without having the chance to meet us in reality as well. The connection to the designed work gets deeper through an interaction with the designer itself. Through our appearance we are connected to the objects and spaces we design. There is no false reality. With our exhibition „Now you see us“ we want to invite you to interact with us and our work to have the chance to experience them in the same way we do and how they are meant to be.

Moreover we want to give you a chance to tell us what you want us to design and what you are missing in your real life. We would love to get in touch with you and to work out an object / furniture, which is not only related to us, but strongly connected with you.

COS LIKES US

We thought it was spam when we got the request from COS . But then we read "editorial request" and couldn't trust our eyes! COS felt inspired by our work, which makes us very very proud and happy! Thanks so much for the feature on your blog about our project "Design with the unknown", which we showed in Milan 2016. Our week couldn't have start better!

STUDIO OINK will talk to you about "Rethinking Architecture for a Life in the City" at the "the sooner now" conference in Hamburg, initiated by Freunde von Freunden and MINI

"City populations are constantly growing and yet the spaces that they occupy often remain static. This means that we must learn to use urban space more creatively in order for everyone to engage with city life. By rethinking the gap between private and shared spaces always with smart architectural solutions in mind, we can reconcile this growth with a sense of community. Micro neighborhoods can evolve, living spaces will become increasingly modular, mobile or temporary and our understanding of how communities are structured in relation to their urban surroundings will be forever changed.
The Sooner Now is an initiative by MINI and Freunde von Freunden that functions as a platform featuring exceptional visions for the future. Connected by the desire to understand, reflect and shape the developments in urban life, The Sooner Now regards itself as a forum for continual dialogue and inspiration. Focused on personal stories and passionate projects, the initiative goes beyond the physicality of the hosting cities and events, instead opening up paths of joint participation in shaping a better life in the city."

Next week, on Thursday 16th of November 2018, we are invited to join the conference "the sooner now" created by Freunde von Freunden and MINI . As a panelist we will talk about new ideas for a minimal, experimental life in the city and how this life change is changing our architecture. Looking very forward to this event and hopefully meeting some of you!
